  Private funeral scheduled for singer’s son The Associated Press NASHVILLE – Private funeral services are set for Saturday in Texas for Billy Nelson, the son of country singer Willie Nelson, who hung himself. Billy Nelson, 33, committed suicide Wednesday morning in his home in suburban Goodlettsville, said Medical Examiner Dr. Charles Harlan. Willie Nelson “is very sad and trying to deal with it,” Evelyn Shriver, a spokesman for the performer, said Thursday. Billy was Nelson’s son from his first marriage, which ended in divorce in 1963. The singer was in Abbott Texas, when he was informed of his son’s death, police said. “He took it as well as could be expected. He’s as OK as you can be under the circumstances,” said Bonnie Garner, a spokeswoman with Nelson’s management company, Mark Rothbaum Associates. “Willie’s a firm believer in reincarnation…so that makes it easier to take,” she told The Tennessean. Billy Nelson had been married once and underwent a 30-day inpatient treatment program for alcohol abuse early in 1990. His mother, Marta, died in 1989. The body of the younger Nelson was found by a friend. “Willie was here in Nashville the week before last and spent some time with Billy, and everyone thought everything was fine,” Ms. Garner said. Billy Nelson was singer Merle Haggard’s stand-in during the filming of the music video “Pancho & Lefty” in 1983. Ms. Garner said he also had recorded a gospel record.
